Batter Up! Cupcakes specializes in baking a variety of fresh, delicious cupcakes from scratch daily. Each day, we offer eleven different flavors of cupcakes. We have a home lineup of seven flavors that are available every day, and a visiting lineup of five flavors which is rotated every two days. The Batter Up! story begins in the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains, where owners Paul & Danielle Stiritz, in search of a small business idea for several years, decided to put Danielle’s baking talent to work and share her delicious cupcakes with the world.
While the San Bernardino area will always hold a special place in the hearts of Paul & Danielle, it is the San Diego area where their family was destined to be. Growing up in Poway since the age of 2, Paul is a proud product of the Poway Unified School District and has seen the once, small country town, grow into the place it is today. Appreciating the great sense of community and family values that embody the spirit of his hometown, it is where Paul and Danielle wanted their children to grow.
What does baseball have to do with cupcakes? Well, not much, really. The baseball theme is just a little bit about who we are. For 13 years prior to opening Batter Up! Cupcakes, Paul had the best job in the world; he was a front office executive with a minor league baseball team. Affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners during his tenure, Paul was fortunate enough to see the development of many current Major League stars and witnessed many great sports moments such as perfect games, no hitters and four California League Championships. It is at this ball field where Paul and Danielle met.
Danielle is the great grand niece of one of the greatest managers in the history of baseball; Casey Stengal. “The Old Perfessor”, as he was known, managed the New York Yankees to seven World Series titles in 10 seasons. It is this family history in baseball that helped cultivate Danielle’s interest in America’s National Pastime. She carried that interest on to volunteering for the University of Nevada, Reno baseball team. Danielle also worked in Minor League Baseball for the Carolina Mudcats and then the Inland Empire 66ers.
After scouting many potential locations for Batter Up! Cupcakes, we realized that The Plaza, in Rancho Bernardo, was the place for us. Our shop is mainly visited for take-out orders, but our spacious front lobby is furnished with a couple of tables and chairs so our fans can enjoy a cupcake and a coffee in comfort, while listening to one of the variety of music genres that are playing daily. We also cater to the needs of weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries and many other special events.
The first year of business was an exciting one for Batter Up! As a result of our dedication to our community and committment to making the best quality products, Batter Up! recevied several local awards. We were voted #1 cupcake in San Diego by the prestigious 10 News A-list voters' poll. Batter Up! Cupcakes was also named 2010 Small Business of the Year by State Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher for his district. We are honored and flattered at the welcome and acceptance that has been shown by our great community and look forward to an even better second year of business.
